Art for Kids

The Joy of Art

Imagine, just for a minute, a world without art. Our lives would be infinitely less rich and exciting. Art gives us a way to be creative and express ourselves. Art is fun and imaginative, anything goes and there is no right or wrong way of doing it. (You can’t say that about many things these days!). And Art motivates most children – kids can glue and paste or get their hands mucky with clay and paints, and no-one tells them off or bats an eyelid.

Art Helps Children

As well as providing an outlet for expression, Art destresses kids. It gives them a chance to be still and relax. Even the liveliest child will settle, when encouraged to draw or paint. And when given free reign, Art can also increase self-esteem and confidence. (Think about how most children love to see their creations displayed. They’re usually proud of what they’ve done and enjoy showing, and describing, their artwork to others.).

It has been shown that children who develop their drawing skills, also excel in other areas of learning – such as reading, mathematics and science. Art helps children to develop problem-solving skills, as well as helping with their ability to focus. And finally… Art is portable. So if you’re going to a child-friendly restaurant with the kids, don’t forget to grab felt-tips and paper, to engage your little darlings. They should stay quiet and relaxed – at least for some of the time!

Art Classes

There are many creative drawing and art classes available for children. For example, Laura Fishman, Owner/Director of Creative Drawing Studio in North West London, has been teaching art to children and adults for over twenty years.

Laura, and her highly experienced teaching team, provide instruction in drawing, painting and 3d projects. They aim to encourage students to achieve their own artistic style, whilst learning basic techniques. The method is non-biased and non-judgmental, achieving a balance between structure for success, and freedom for creative expression.

Creative Drawing Studio opened in 2000 and has a great reputation in the local community. Weekly classes are offered during term time, holidays and half term. Birthday parties, on or off-site, are also available, as well as adult tuition and team-building corporate workshops.
